WhatsApp has introduced a new feature called Writing Help, powered by Meta AI, aimed at making it easier for users to draft and refine their messages. The feature allows users to receive suggestions for improving their texts in different styles, including professional, funny, or supportive, giving them flexibility to better express themselves in conversations. Writing Help can be accessed directly within WhatsApp chats. Users can begin drafting a message in either a personal or group chat and then tap the newly added pencil icon to activate the feature. Once enabled, Meta AI will provide rewritten suggestions that users can select, edit further, or discard, depending on their preference. Meta emphasized that the feature is built on its Private Processing technology, which ensures that neither WhatsApp nor Meta can read the user’s original messages or the AI-generated suggestions. All processing is done in a way that keeps conversations secure and private. To reinforce this claim, Meta worked with independent security researchers, including NCC Group and Trail of Bits, who have published audits on the system’s design and implementation. The company said these collaborations are part of its broader effort to stress-test and strengthen privacy-preserving technologies across its platforms.
